Matured at Mars Komagatake Distillery and bottled at 40% ABV, it offers a smooth, rounded profile with plenty of warmth, making it a versatile whisky for sipping neat, over ice or in classic whisky cocktails. 

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Honey, soft malt, orange marmalade and gentle oak spice.

Palate: Smooth and rounded, with vanilla, burnt sugar, citrus peel and a mellow, lightly savoury whisky core.

About the Distillery / Producer / Region

Mars Whisky is produced by Hombo Shuzo, a long established Japanese drinks company with roots dating back to the 1870s. The company entered whisky production in the mid 20th century and has become one of the important names in Japanese whisky, known for balancing tradition with a distinctive house style.

The Iwai name pays tribute to Kiichiro Iwai, a key figure in the early development of Japanese whisky. He is best known for the influential “Iwai papers,” which helped shape the technical foundations of whisky making in Japan. That connection gives the whisky an extra layer of historical significance, linking it to the formative years of the Japanese whisky industry.

Mars Komagatake Distillery, where the whisky is matured, sits high in the Japanese Alps in Nagano Prefecture. The cool mountain climate plays an important role in the whisky’s development, helping build elegance, texture and balance. IWAI Traditional reflects that heritage with a style that is approachable, characterful and rooted in one of Japan’s long running whisky stories.
