“Fresh Ligurian Pigato with lime, pear, herbs, florals and a lovely salty mineral finish.”

Cascina Feipu dei Massaretti Pigato 2024 is one of those Italian whites that reminds you there is a lot more to Italy than Pinot Grigio.

Made from 100% Pigato in Liguria, it is fresh, dry and full of character, with lime, pear and green apple followed by herbs, florals and a distinctly salty mineral edge. The palate has a little texture and nuttiness through the middle, while the acidity stays fine and clean rather than sharp.

If you like Vermentino, Chablis or crisp Italian whites but want something a little less obvious, Pigato is a very good place to go. This has freshness, texture and proper regional personality without becoming difficult or overly serious.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Lime, pear, green apple, yellow fruit, florals and fresh Mediterranean herbs.

Palate: Dry and lightly textural with ripe yellow fruit, pear, gentle nuttiness and fine acidity.

Finish: Fresh and persistent with herbs, minerality, subtle salinity and a lightly savoury edge.

About The Winery

Cascina Feipu dei Massaretti is a small family estate in Albenga on the Ligurian coast. Founded by Agostino and Bice Parodi, the winery works entirely with grapes grown in its own vineyards and has become particularly well known for Pigato, one of Liguria’s distinctive local white varieties.

Pigato is closely related to Vermentino, but in Liguria it tends to show a little more texture, herbal character and savoury depth. The 2024 is made entirely from Pigato and matured in stainless steel, keeping the focus on fresh fruit, florals and that lovely coastal mineral character.

It is the sort of wine that makes you wonder why Pigato does not turn up more often. Then again, keeping a few good Italian varieties slightly under the radar is not necessarily a bad thing.

Cellaring Potential

Cascina Feipu dei Massaretti Pigato 2024 is drinking beautifully now and is really at its best while the fruit, herbs and mineral freshness are lively. Enjoy now through to around 2027.
