Pikes The Assemblage GSM 2024 is a bright, generous Clare Valley red that gets the balance between fruit and savoury character just right.

Cherry and raspberry lead the way, followed by blackberry, plum and blackcurrant, with milk chocolate, liquorice, sage and pepper adding a little more depth. The palate is medium bodied and smooth, with soft cocoa like tannins keeping everything nicely together.

It has plenty of flavour without being heavy, enough savoury detail to keep things interesting and the sort of soft tannins that mean you can happily open it now rather than waiting five years for it to calm down.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Cherry, raspberry, blackberry, milk chocolate and subtle liquorice.

Palate: Medium bodied with juicy red fruit, plum, blackcurrant and soft cocoa tannins.

Finish: Smooth and savoury with lingering berries, sage, pepper and gentle spice.

About The Winery

Pikes Wines is a family owned Clare Valley producer based at Polish Hill River, with a history dating back to 1984. The winery is best known for Riesling, but its red wines have become an equally important part of the range, particularly Shiraz, Cabernet and Mediterranean varieties.

The Assemblage brings together Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre in almost equal proportions, with 34% Grenache, 33% Shiraz and 33% Mourvèdre in the verified current blend. Grenache brings the bright red fruit, Shiraz adds plum and darker fruit, while Mourvèdre gives the wine its savoury spice and structure.

It is polished, generous and very easy to understand, which is usually a good sign when you are halfway through the first glass.

Pikes The Assemblage GSM 2024 is made to be enjoyed while the fruit is bright and lively, but the style also has enough structure to develop over the next five years under good storage conditions.
