Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky 700ml

“Smooth Kentucky bourbon with dried fruit, caramel, orange, cocoa and warm spice.”

Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky is one of those bottles that works equally well for the bourbon newcomer and the person who already has a suspiciously crowded whiskey shelf.

Rich dried fruit, orange and dark cherry lead into caramel, toffee, cocoa and gentle baking spice. The palate is smooth and rounded, with enough oak and spice to give it structure without losing the sweeter bourbon character underneath. Woodford Reserve describes the bourbon as having more than 200 detectable flavour notes across grain, wood, fruit, floral, spice and sweet aromatic categories.

This is a great choice if you want a classic Kentucky bourbon that is polished enough to drink neat but versatile enough for an Old Fashioned or Whiskey Sour.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Dried fruit, dark cherry, candied orange, cocoa, vanilla and gentle tobacco spice.

Palate: Rich and rounded with citrus, cinnamon, caramel, toffee and dark chocolate.

Finish: Smooth, warm and lingering with soft oak, spice and sweet caramel notes.

About The Distillery

Woodford Reserve is produced at the historic Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, Kentucky. Whiskey production at the site dates back to 1812, and the distillery is recognised as a National Historic Landmark.

The house style is built around balance rather than sheer sweetness or heavy oak, which is why Woodford Reserve has become such a reliable all rounder. It has enough richness for sipping, enough spice for cocktails and enough familiarity that nobody needs an instruction manual before pouring a glass.

Cask and Maturation

As a Kentucky Straight Bourbon, Woodford Reserve is matured in new charred oak barrels, which contributes the familiar caramel, vanilla, spice and oak notes that sit behind the fruitier character.

Serving Suggestions

Excellent neat, over a large cube of ice or with a splash of water.

It is also a particularly good choice for an Old Fashioned, Manhattan or Whiskey Sour, where the caramel, citrus and spice have enough flavour to stay present once mixed. Woodford Reserve itself highlights the Old Fashioned and Mint Julep as classic serves.
