West Cape Howe Old School Chardonnay 2025 is a fuller bodied Great Southern Chardonnay made in a generous, traditional style. True to its name, it leans into ripe stone fruit, creamy oak and a broad, velvety palate, offering a more opulent take on cool climate Chardonnay while still holding balance and freshness. West Cape Howe presents it as a rich and toasty Chardonnay with peach and melon layered through a creamy, full flavoured finish. 

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Ripe peach, melon and subtle toasty oak.

Palate: Full flavoured and velvety, with generous stone fruit, creamy texture and soft oak richness. 

Finish: Rich and rounded, with lingering peachy fruit and a toasty, creamy close.

Winemaking

This is made in an intentionally richer Chardonnay style, with oak influence and palate weight playing a central role in the finished wine. The result is a soft, textural and full flavoured expression that sits firmly in the “old school” camp rather than a leaner, more restrained style. 

About the Winery / History

West Cape Howe was founded in 1997 and has become one of Western Australia’s established family owned wine producers. Based at the Langton vineyard in Mount Barker, the winery works with some of the oldest vineyard resources in the Great Southern, with the Langton site itself established in 1978. The winery focuses on wines with flavour, balance and structure, drawing on premium fruit from Mount Barker and the wider Great Southern region. 

Cellaring Potential

Best enjoyed while its ripe fruit, creamy texture and toasty oak are at their most expressive, though the wine’s richness suggests it should drink well over the short term under good conditions.
