West Cape Howe Book Ends Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is a beautifully put together Mount Barker Cabernet with plenty of dark fruit, structure and polish. Blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry are at the heart of the wine, with cedar, spice and a little savoury complexity giving it that classic Cabernet feel. It is generous without being too heavy and has a beautiful smoothness through the palate.

The 2021 vintage was an excellent one in Mount Barker, producing Cabernet with richness, concentration and great balance. This release shows ripe boysenberry and blackberry fruit alongside black olive, liquorice, cedar and subtle tobacco. Fine acidity and soft, persistent tannins keep everything nicely in shape and give the wine excellent length.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Blackcurrant, dark cherry, blackberry, violets, cedar, liquorice and gentle spice.

Palate: Full flavoured and smooth with ripe dark berries, black cherry, cedar, black olive and savoury spice supported by fine acidity and soft tannins.

Finish: Long and balanced with lingering dark fruit, cedar, spice and gently drying Cabernet tannins.

About The Winery

West Cape Howe Wines is based in Mount Barker in Western Australia's Great Southern region. Established in 1997, the winery works with estate vineyards in Mount Barker and Frankland River, along with selected growers from across the Great Southern.

Book Ends is one of West Cape Howe's flagship Cabernet Sauvignons and showcases just how well Cabernet performs in Mount Barker's cooler climate. The region is known for producing Cabernet with concentrated dark fruit, fine tannins and freshness, and the 2021 is a great example of that style.

This is a Cabernet that feels serious enough to put away in the cellar, but it is already very enjoyable now, especially if you give it a little time to open up.
