Weihenstephaner Vitus Bottle 500ml is an award winning Bavarian Weizenbock with apricot, citrus, banana and gentle clove spice. Brewed at 7.7% ABV, it has the richness you expect from a stronger beer, yet drinks with the freshness, fruit and lively character of a beautifully made German wheat beer.

About The Brewery, History And Region

Weihenstephaner Vitus comes from the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan in Freising, Bavaria, a brewery with a history unlike almost any other in the world.

The story begins in 725, when Saint Corbinian and twelve companions founded a Benedictine monastery on Weihenstephan Hill above Freising. Hops were being cultivated around the monastery by the eighth century, and in 1040 Abbot Arnold secured the official right to brew and sell beer. That year marks the beginning of the Weihenstephan Monastery Brewery.

Over the centuries, the monastery survived fires, wars, plague, famine and repeated destruction. Each time, the monks rebuilt and continued brewing. When the monastery was dissolved in 1803, the brewery continued under Bavarian state ownership and eventually became the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan.

Today, beer is still brewed on Weihenstephan Hill in Freising, surrounded by the modern brewing and food science facilities of the Technical University of Munich. It is a fascinating combination of nearly one thousand years of brewing tradition and modern brewing knowledge.

Freising sits in Upper Bavaria, north of Munich, surrounded by rolling countryside with views toward the Alps. Wheat beer is deeply woven into Bavarian brewing culture, and Vitus represents a richer and more powerful expression of that tradition.
