Urmeneta Reserve Carmenere 2023 is a generous Chilean red from the Central Valley, a region known for ripe fruit, smooth texture and excellent value. Carmenere has become one of Chile’s signature grapes, loved for its dark fruit, savoury herbal detail and soft, rounded tannins.

The 2023 vintage shows red and blackcurrant, plum, liquorice, tobacco, tomato leaf, dried herbs and a gentle earthy note. It is medium bodied, smooth and fruit driven, with a savoury finish that makes it a great everyday red for food and relaxed drinking.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Blackcurrant, redcurrant, plum, tobacco, tomato leaf, capsicum, dried herbs and gentle spice.

Palate: Medium bodied and smooth with red and black fruit, liquorice, savoury herbs, soft earthiness and fine grained tannins.

Finish: Dry and balanced with lingering currant fruit, tobacco, spice and a lightly herbal Chilean finish.

About The Producer

Urmeneta is one of Chile’s historic wine names, with roots dating back to 1860. The winery was founded by José Tomás Urmeneta, an influential Chilean figure whose investment in vineyards helped shape the development of the country’s modern wine industry.

Chile’s Central Valley is one of South America’s most important wine regions, stretching between the Andes and the Pacific influenced coastal ranges. Warm sunny days help build ripe fruit flavour, while cooler nights help preserve freshness and balance.

Carmenere originally came from Bordeaux, but it found a natural home in Chile, where the climate allows it to ripen fully and develop its signature mix of dark fruit, spice and savoury herbal notes.
