Tahbilk 1927 Vines Marsanne 2017 is one of Australia’s great heritage wines, sourced from some of the oldest continuously producing Marsanne vines in the world, planted in 1927. This release showcases the variety’s remarkable ability to evolve, beginning with restraint and structure, then unfolding into layered complexity with time. The 2017 vintage sits beautifully in its evolution, combining freshness with emerging savoury depth.

1927 Vines is the equivalent of a bottle aged Hunter semillon, albeit with marsanne. It's ground-breaking in style, showcasing the grape in a different light. Herbals and florals to the fore on the bouquet, penetrating and lifted. High acidity is not a strength of the grape but picked early it's bracing and crunchy against a background of quince, green apple, grilled grapefruit and lemon zest. Tasting Notes
Aroma: Lemon rind, beeswax and chamomile with hints of lanolin, almond and gentle spice.
Palate: Medium-bodied and textural, showing citrus, pear skin and savoury nuance supported by fine phenolic grip.
Finish: Long, dry and complex with lingering mineral and waxy notes.
Serving Suggestions
Serve at 10–12°C. Decanting or extended time in the glass will reveal added aromatic and textural detail.
About the Winery / Vineyard
Tahbilk is one of Australia’s most historic family owned wineries, established in 1860 and still run by the Purbrick family. Located in the Nagambie Lakes region of Victoria, Tahbilk is globally renowned for its commitment to Marsanne, with a collection of old vines unmatched outside France’s Rhône Valley.
The 1927 Vines Marsanne block is central to Tahbilk’s identity, producing wines celebrated for longevity, purity and distinctive character. Crafted with minimal intervention and patience, these wines are designed to age gracefully for decades, evolving from citrus and restraint into nutty, honeyed and savoury complexity.
