Stomping Ground Into The Wood Whisky Barrel Aged Imperial Stout is a luxurious barrel aged imperial stout with dark chocolate, espresso, molasses and warming rye whiskey. Brewed at 10.0% ABV, it is a rich and deeply layered beer made for slow drinking, sharing and enjoying when something genuinely special is called for.

The imperial stout was rested in The Gospel Solera Rye Whiskey barrels, allowing the dark roasted malt to take on layers of oak, warm spice and smooth whiskey character. Dark chocolate, strong coffee, burnt caramel and molasses fill the palate, with the rye barrels adding touches of vanilla, tobacco and gentle herbal spice.

Despite its size and strength, the beer feels polished and beautifully put together. It is a brilliant choice for those who enjoy serious imperial stouts, barrel aged beer and limited bottles with plenty of depth and character.

About The Brewery And Region

Stomping Ground Brewing Co was founded in Collingwood in 2016 by Steve Jeffares, Guy Greenstone and Justin Joiner. Their aim was to bring independent brewing back to a neighbourhood that had once been at the heart of Australian beer production.

Based in a converted warehouse on Gipps Street, the brewery has become a familiar part of Collingwood’s food, arts and hospitality scene. Its range moves from easy drinking lagers and pale ales to more adventurous beers created for festivals, special occasions and limited releases.

Into The Wood is Stomping Ground’s premium collection of wild, refined and barrel aged beers. Each release gives the brewing team room to explore unusual styles, longer ageing and the flavour that comes from carefully selected barrels.

This Imperial Stout captures that approach beautifully. The partnership with Melbourne distillery The Gospel adds a genuine local connection, bringing together Collingwood brewing and Australian rye whiskey in one rich and memorable bottle.

This beer is drinking beautifully now, with bold espresso, chocolate and whiskey barrel character. Careful cellaring can allow the warmth and roasted flavours to soften, bringing greater harmony and deeper notes of dried fruit, caramel and oak.
