Sons Of Eden Romulus Old Vine Shiraz 2023 750ml

“Old vine Barossa Shiraz with blackberry, dark plum, spice and long velvety tannins.”

Sons of Eden Romulus Old Vine Shiraz 2023 is a serious Barossa Shiraz built around old vine fruit, richness and plenty of regional character.

Dark plum, blackberry and black cherry lead the way, joined by coffee bean, dried herbs and sweet spice. The palate is full bodied and concentrated, but the fruit stays vibrant and the tannins are beautifully smooth, giving the wine impressive length without feeling overdone.

This is an excellent choice for anyone who likes powerful Barossa Shiraz but still wants balance and polish. It is already generous enough to enjoy now, although there is plenty of structure here for the cellar.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Blackberry, dark cherry and ripe red berries with coffee bean, dried herbs and gentle spice.

Palate: Rich and full bodied with juicy plum, blackberry and red fruit, supported by sweet spice and velvety tannins.

Finish: Long and persistent with lingering dark fruit, savoury herbs and fine spice.

Serving Suggestions

A natural match with grilled steak, slow cooked beef, roast lamb and smoky barbecue dishes.

It also works beautifully with rich pasta, mushrooms and mature cheeses, where the dark fruit and savoury spice have plenty of weight to hold their own.

About The Winery

Sons of Eden is the partnership of winemaker Corey Ryan and viticulturist Simon Cowham, whose experience across the Barossa has shaped a range focused on the region’s best known varieties and vineyard sites.

Romulus represents the Barossa Valley side of the Sons of Eden story and is sourced from old Shiraz vineyards in Light Pass and Nuriootpa. The fruit comes from vines ranging from around 60 to more than 80 years old, giving the wine the depth and concentration expected from serious old vine Barossa Shiraz.

It is a big wine, but not a clumsy one. Plenty of Barossa muscle, with enough polish to keep everything in the right place.

Cellaring Potential

Sons of Eden lists 2036 as the optimum cellaring year for the 2023 Romulus.

It is already approachable for its ripe fruit and smooth tannins, but further cellaring should bring more savoury, earthy and spicy complexity.
