Schlenkerla Urbock Bottle 500ml

Schlenkerla Urbock is the bigger, richer end of the brewery’s smoked beer range.

Made with the same traditional beechwood smoked malt that gives Schlenkerla its unmistakable character, Urbock adds more malt depth, more body and a little more warmth. Expect dark bread, caramel, dried fruit and roasted malt wrapped in a generous layer of smoke, with enough bitterness underneath to keep the whole thing balanced.

At 6.5% ABV, it is fuller and more powerful than the Märzen, but it still drinks with that classic Schlenkerla dryness rather than becoming sweet or heavy.

If you already enjoy Rauchbier, Urbock is where things get more serious. It keeps the smoke you expect, then adds richer malt, more body and a longer, warmer finish.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Beechwood smoke, caramelised malt, dark bread, dried fruit and subtle herbal hops.

Palate: Full bodied with rich malt, toffee, dark fruit, roasted grain and a deep smoky character.

Finish: Long and warming with lingering smoke, caramel, dark malt and firm hop bitterness.

About The Brewery

Schlenkerla is based in Bamberg, Germany, and is one of the world’s most famous producers of traditional smoked beer.

The brewery still dries its malt over an open beechwood fire, preserving a method that was once common but largely disappeared as modern malt production changed.

Urbock is the stronger autumn release in the range, traditionally brewed for the cooler months. Compared with the classic Märzen, it has more malt concentration and more body, while still keeping the characteristic smoke front and centre.

It is not subtle, and that is rather the point. If Märzen is the introduction to Schlenkerla, Urbock is the bottle you open once you know exactly what you are getting into.
