Schlenkerla Helles Lager Bottle 500ml

“Crisp Bamberg Helles with fresh malt, floral hops and just the faintest whisper of smoke.”

Schlenkerla Helles Lager is a beautifully clean German lager with one very distinctive little twist.

Brewed with pale barley malt and Bavarian aroma hops, it opens with fresh grain, soft bread and gentle floral hops. The palate is crisp, balanced and lightly malty, with firm bitterness keeping everything refreshing. Then comes the Schlenkerla signature, a faint smoky edge from being brewed in the same historic brewery environment as its famous Rauchbier.

This lager gives you the clean, refreshing character of a classic Bavarian Helles with just enough smoke to make it genuinely different. It is approachable enough for lager drinkers, but interesting enough for anyone who already loves Schlenkerla.

About The Brewery

Schlenkerla is based in Bamberg, Germany, and is one of the world's best known producers of traditional smoked beer.

The Helles is a little different from the darker Rauchbier styles that made the brewery famous. It contains no smoked malt, but it is brewed in the same historic copper kettles and fermented using the same yeast associated with Schlenkerla's smoked beers. That shared brewing environment gives the beer its subtle smoky character.

The result is far gentler than the classic Märzen or Urbock, but still unmistakably Schlenkerla.

Think of it as the beer you give someone who says they are not sure about smoked beer. There is enough there to get the idea, but nowhere near enough to frighten them off.
