Samuel’s Gorge Shiraz 2023 is a soulful, expressive take on McLaren Vale’s hero variety concentrated yet beautifully lifted, with a seamless balance of dark fruit, spice, and savoury complexity. Crafted by Justin McNamee using traditional, hands-on winemaking, it’s a Shiraz that favours finesse over heaviness, offering both power and purity in every glass.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Dark plum, blackberry, and black cherry wrapped in notes of cocoa, cracked pepper, clove, and dried herbs.
Palate: Generous and textured with rich dark fruits, earthy spice, and a subtle savoury edge. The palate is plush but beautifully structured, showing refined tannins and impressive depth.
Finish: Long, harmonious, and spice-driven with lingering hints of dark chocolate and mineral freshness.

Food Pairing / Serving Suggestions

About the Winery / Region

Perched above the dramatic Onkaparinga Gorge, Samuel’s Gorge is a boutique McLaren Vale winery celebrated for its handcrafted, old world approach. Established in 2003, Justin McNamee champions Rhône varieties through minimal intervention, open fermentation, basket pressing, and a deep respect for terroir. McLaren Vale’s warm climate, ancient soils, and coastal breezes produce Shiraz with intensity, lift, and stunning regional identity, all on full display in this vintage.

Cellaring Potential

A powerful yet poised Shiraz that will age gracefully for 10–12 years, developing deeper savoury layers, softer tannins, and added complexity through 2035.
