Rochefort Trappistes 10 Bottle is a powerful Belgian Trappist ale with dark chocolate, coffee, dried fruit and warming spice. Brewed at 11.3% ABV within the Abbey of Notre Dame de Saint Remy, it delivers remarkable richness and complexity while retaining the balance and refinement that define the Rochefort range.

The palate is deep and generously layered, with roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, caramel and dried fruit joined by warming spice and gentle bitterness. Originally known as the Merveille, meaning the Wonder, Rochefort 10 was introduced during the early 1950s and has become the best known beer produced by the abbey. The number 10 does not indicate its alcohol content. It comes from an old Belgian measurement once used to describe the density of the wort.

About The Abbey, Brewery And Region

Rochefort Trappistes 10 is brewed within the Abbey of Notre Dame de Saint Remy near Rochefort in the Belgian province of Namur. The monastery was founded in 1230, while the earliest written records of brewing at the abbey date to 1595.

The monks follow the Rule of Saint Benedict and its traditional principle of prayer and work. Brewing developed as part of the monastery’s daily labour, originally producing nourishing beer for the monastic community before eventually becoming an important source of support for the abbey.

Over nearly eight centuries, the abbey has survived wars, fires, looting, epidemics and the upheaval of the French Revolution. The monks were forced to leave during the revolution, but monastic life was restored in 1887. Commercial beer sales began in 1910 to help support the community.

Professional brewing expanded during the 1950s, when the modern Rochefort range began to take shape. Rochefort 10 was the second beer introduced during this period, followed by the development of the other familiar Rochefort expressions. A new brewery was completed in 1960 and became known as the cathedral of beer because of its copper vessels and stained glass windows.

The abbey is located in Wallonia in southern Belgium, a region of forested hills, limestone landscapes and centuries old religious communities. Water from the Tridaine spring has long been associated with the distinctive character of Rochefort beer, helping give the range a genuine connection to its historic home.

Cellaring Potential

Rochefort Trappistes 10 is impressive when enjoyed young, with bold coffee, chocolate, spice and dark fruit character. Careful cellaring can soften its strength and allow the flavours to become deeper and more integrated.

Over time, notes of dried fig, raisin, caramel, bread and gentle oxidative complexity may become more pronounced. Store the bottle upright in a cool, dark and stable place.
