Provenance Shiraz 2022 750ml

Produced by winemaker Scott Ireland, the 2022 Provenance Geelong Shiraz exemplifies the elegance and complexity of cool-climate Shiraz. Sourced from vineyards near Bannockburn in the Moorabool Valley, this wine reflects the unique terroir of red sandy loam over ironstone gravel and limestone subsoils. The 2021/2022 growing season, influenced by La Niña, provided cool conditions and consistent rainfall, resulting in small, concentrated crops with extended ripening periods.

An attractive deep violet colour in the glass. Lifted fruit aromas of liquorice, black olive and allspice speak of vineyard rather than the winemaker’s toolkit. When tasted, powerful fruit flavour matched to medium weight is cut with a fine textural tannin input. The long in flavour finish, is matched to fresh natural acidity that completes/balances the wine. An age-worthy refined wine.

This versatile Shiraz pairs beautifully with grilled meats, hearty stews, or aged cheeses. Its balanced profile makes it suitable for enjoying now or cellaring for up to a decade.

From the Spence and Ceres vineyards in Moorabool. A splash of viognier with 14 days on skins and 14 months in old 500L puncheons. Saturated purple. Full of dark fruits, black pepper and spices such as cardamom and clove. A gentle meatiness, too, which carries onto the medium-bodied, ripe, quite structured and delicious palate. It would pair perfectly with some rib eye now, but it's got the legs to improve for quite some time. Philip Rich

Winemaking Details

Grape Variety: Predominantly Shiraz with a small percentage of Viognier.

Fermentation: 100% destemmed whole berries underwent indigenous fermentation, peaking at 28°C.

Maturation: Aged for 14 months in a selection of older large French oak puncheons, with only 5% new oak barriques

Alcohol Content: 14% ABV
