Deep, rich, and elegant, Penfolds St Henri Shiraz 2012 expresses a timeless side of South Australian Shiraz. Crafted predominantly from Shiraz and a small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon, it forgoes new oak influence and instead develops its character in large, seasoned vats. The result is a pure expression of fruit — a complex bouquet of blackberry, dark plum, and mulberry, intertwined with notes of brambly liquorice and a hint of roasted walnut. The palate is full-bodied and well-structured, offering rich dark fruit flavours supported by fine, chalky tannins and a touch of dark chocolate. The finish is persistent and refined, reflecting both depth and maturity. Ideally paired with hearty dishes such as grilled steak, slow-cooked meats, or a rich hard cheese.

'Has a whisk of 3% cabernet to accompany the shiraz, the grapes from the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Robe and the Clare Valley. In the manner of all St Henris, matured for 13 months in 50yo oak vats (1460l). This is an exercise on a chequer board of savoury/smoky black fruits with firm, but polished, tannins. A great St Henri that will come into its own in a bare minimum of 10 years, and live long thereafter.'
