Paul Osicka Majors Creek Vineyard Shiraz 2023 is a beautifully refined Heathcote Shiraz with ripe black and blue fruits, savoury herbs and plenty of regional character. It has the depth you expect from Heathcote, but the 2023 vintage brings a slightly finer, more elegant feel, making this a Shiraz with both richness and poise. 

Expect blackberry, blueberry and dark plum alongside wild herbs, baked earth, anise and subtle spice. The palate is generous and layered without becoming heavy, with fine tannins providing structure and a long savoury finish.

Palate: Medium to full bodied with ripe black and blue fruits, savoury herbs, gentle spice and fine structured tannins.

A number of different soil types employed here, each batch fermented and matured separately in French oak. A wine with a long-standing history with plantings dating back almost 70 years. It's a slightly finer rendition this vintage but the generosity is there, the Heathcote stamp apparent in sweet, ripe black and blue fruits, wild herbs, baked earth, anise and, yes, spice. Boasts a fine-grained texture and freshness through to the finish. Open and generous but with a nice degree of elegance. Old vines at their best. Jenni Port

About The Winery

Paul Osicka Wines is one of Heathcote’s long established family producers, founded in 1955 and now run by second and third generation members of the Osicka family. The wines are grown, made and bottled at the estate from mature dry grown vineyards.

The Majors Creek Vineyard is located at Gray town in the Heathcote region and has become closely associated with the distinctive Paul Osicka style. The wines are known for combining ripe Heathcote fruit with savoury complexity, structure and impressive ageing potential.

The 2023 Majors Creek Vineyard Shiraz is a particularly polished release, showing the power of old vine Heathcote Shiraz in a finer and more restrained style.

Cellaring Potential

Paul Osicka Majors Creek Vineyard Shiraz 2023 is already approachable with a decant, but it has the structure and balance to develop beautifully in bottle. Jeni Port recommends drinking through 2036, making this an excellent choice for both current drinking and medium term cellaring.

Collector’s Note

With mature vineyard fruit and a strong Heathcote pedigree, the 2023 Majors Creek Vineyard Shiraz has excellent cellar appeal. It is particularly attractive for those who enjoy Australian Shiraz with depth and richness but also freshness, savoury detail and restraint.
