O’Hara’s Leann Folláin Extra Irish Stout is a big, proper Irish stout with loads of roasted malt character and a lovely smooth richness. Dark chocolate and mocha are front and centre, with vanilla, coffee and a little biscuit adding plenty of depth.

At 6% ABV, it has more weight and intensity than O’Hara’s regular Irish Stout, but it still feels balanced rather than heavy. The rich chocolate malt is kept nicely in check by classic European hops, giving the finish a spicy bitterness that makes you want to go back for another sip.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Mocha, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, biscuit and a subtle sweet vinous note.

Palate: Full flavoured and smooth with dark chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt, coffee and gentle biscuit sweetness.

Finish: Long and roasty with lingering chocolate, coffee and a refreshing spicy hop bitterness.

About The Brewery

O’Hara’s is brewed by Carlow Brewing Company, an independent Irish brewery with a strong reputation for traditional Irish beer styles alongside modern craft releases.

Leann Folláin means “wholesome stout” in Irish, and it is essentially the bigger, richer brother of O’Hara’s Irish Stout. A generous amount of chocolate malt gives the beer its depth, while extended mashing and boiling bring out those roasted coffee and biscuit flavours.

If you like stout with plenty of dark chocolate and coffee character, but still want a firm, dry bitterness rather than loads of sweetness, this is an excellent one to try.
