La Vieille Ferme Rouge 2024 is one of those wonderfully straightforward French reds that reminds you good wine does not need to be complicated.

Made by Famille Perrin, the family behind Château de Beaucastel, it blends Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cinsault into a bright, juicy style packed with red fruit. Think crushed strawberry, cherry, cassis and little wild berries, with gentle spice and a soft savoury edge underneath. The tannins are fine and smooth, the acidity keeps everything fresh, and the whole thing is dangerously easy to pour another glass of.

This is exactly what an everyday French red should be, plenty of flavour, soft tannins, good freshness and proper Southern French character without requiring a special occasion or a lengthy discussion about limestone.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Crushed strawberry, cassis, cherry, small red berries and gentle spice.

Palate: Medium bodied and juicy with fresh red fruit, bright acidity and a smooth velvety texture.

Finish: Soft, fresh and savoury with lingering cherry, cassis and fine integrated tannins.

About The Winery

La Vieille Ferme is produced by Famille Perrin, one of the best known family owned wine producers in the Southern Rhône. The Perrin family has been making La Vieille Ferme since 1970, with the idea of creating honest, approachable wines that deliver plenty of regional character without becoming overly serious.

The family is also behind the famous Château de Beaucastel, so there is a serious amount of Rhône winemaking experience sitting behind what is deliberately a relaxed and affordable bottle.

The 2024 Rouge is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cinsault. Each variety is handled separately before blending, helping keep the fruit bright, fresh and expressive.

This is very much a drink now style. Famille Perrin recommends enjoying the 2024 within the year while the fruit is at its freshest and most vibrant.
