The 2022 vintage is generous yet fresh, with dark raspberry, ripe cherry, red liquorice, cranberry, soft spice and a gentle earthy edge. It has lovely concentration without feeling heavy, making it a great choice for those who enjoy vibrant reds with fragrance, texture and a smooth finish.

Aroma: Dark raspberry, cherry, red liquorice, cranberry, fresh herbs, soft spice and delicate pepper.

Palate: Medium bodied and juicy with raspberry, ripe cherry, red fruit compote, subtle earth, fine tannins and gentle oak support.

Finish: Long, fresh and silky with lingering red fruit, spice and a soft savoury edge.

The fruit comes from the Watervale subregion of Clare Valley. It's a deep and full grenache, lashed with ripe raspberry, tart cherry, licorice, salty herbs and lavender oil scents, the palate more of the same, distinctly spicy, dashed with cinnamon and pepper elements. There's a brightness under the more potent fruit character, a pleasing lift in the mesh of that ripeness and daring spice. It feels even, good to drink, supple and flows well. About The Winery

Kilikanoon is one of Clare Valley’s most respected producers, founded in 1997 by winemaker Kevin Mitchell. The winery was built on a deep family connection to the land, with Kevin guided by his father Mort Mitchell and generations of Clare Valley winegrowing knowledge.

Prodigal Grenache was one of the first four wines made by Kilikanoon, alongside The Oracle Shiraz, Blocks Road Cabernet and Mort’s Block Riesling. The name reflects the return of Grenache to the spotlight, as a variety once widely used for fortified wines has become one of Australia’s most exciting red grapes.

Clare Valley is known for its unique mix of altitude, warm days, cool nights and varied soils. While the region is famous for Riesling, it also produces Grenache with perfume, brightness and natural balance. The Leasingham vineyard source gives this wine its lifted red fruit, silky structure and long savoury finish.
