Juliard Wines GSM 2024 is one of those reds that manages to have plenty going on without making you work too hard for it.

Cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry lead the way, followed by blood plum, mulberry, dark chocolate, smoky tea and a little alpine herb character. It is medium bodied, perfumed and beautifully fresh, with fine tannins and juicy acidity giving the wine real energy.

This is serious Beechworth wine without the serious attitude. It has 95 points from Jeni Port at Halliday Wine Companion and 93 points from Mike Bennie at The Wine Front, but it is still the sort of bottle you can happily open on a Tuesday rather than waiting for someone important to come over.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, blackberry, dried cranberry and dark spice.

Palate: Medium bodied with blood plum, mulberry, dark chocolate, smoky tea, herbs and bright raspberry acidity.

Finish: Long and lively with fine silky tannins, dark fruit, spice and a savoury herbal edge.

Halliday Wine Companion - 95 Points 

With a vinous pulse that doesn't stop, this GSM shows a vibrancy that many GSMs can only imagine. A fine-edged, medium-bodied, aromatically lifted blend that brings a host of florals in unison with cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry fruits and a gathering of dark and peppery spices. Comes together on a bed of fine tannins and juicy bright acidity and it simply goes and goes. All class in what was a challenging, early vintage for the biodynamic grower/maker. Jeni Port

About The Winery

Juliard Wines is the Beechworth project of Jules and Bernard Morey, the second generation of the family behind Sorrenberg. The label began with the 2018 vintage and has quickly built a reputation for thoughtful, small batch wines with plenty of freshness and personality.

The 2024 GSM comes from biodynamically farmed Beechworth vineyards and blends 45% Grenache, 20% Shiraz, 15% Mourvèdre, 10% Cinsault and 10% Carignan. Grenache brings perfume and red fruit, Shiraz adds darker fruit and spice, while Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Carignan fill in the savoury detail around the edges.

The end result is polished without feeling overly worked. Which is usually a good sign with wine, and people.

Cellaring Potential

Juliard Wines GSM 2024 is already drinking beautifully for its perfume and freshness, but there is enough structure to let it develop further. Mike Bennie suggests a drinking window of 2026 to 2032, so there is no rush if you want to put a few bottles away.

The 2024 GSM received 95 points from Jeni Port at Halliday Wine Companion and 93 points from Mike Bennie at The Wine Front. For a relatively young Beechworth label, those are fairly serious numbers and another good reason to keep an eye on Juliard.
