John Glaetzer John’s Blend No. 45 Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 is a mature release Langhorne Creek Cabernet made in the full-flavoured, generous style this label is known for. It shows classic regional Cabernet character, combining ripe black fruit with notes of chocolate, mint, cedar and spice, while extended oak maturation brings depth and polish. John’s Blend has been produced in Langhorne Creek since its first release in 1974 and remains closely associated with John and Margarete Glaetzer’s pursuit of richly styled, cellar worthy reds.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Ripe blackcurrant, liquorice, cedar, chocolate, mint and a touch of spicy tobacco.

Palate: Medium to full-bodied, with smooth blackcurrant fruit, dark chocolate, eucalypt, cedar and spice layered over integrated oak.

Finish: Long and flavoursome, with soft tannins and lingering mint, dark fruit and oak spice.

Winemaking

John’s Blend Cabernet Sauvignon is built from selected Langhorne Creek fruit and a style shaped by extended oak maturation. For the 2020 release, a maturation for 43 months in seasoned French and American oak hogsheads, helping to build the wine’s richness, softness and layered savoury detail.

John’s Blend is the personal label of John and Margarete Glaetzer in Langhorne Creek, South Australia. The Cabernet Sauvignon has a long history, with the first release dating back to the 1974 vintage. The winery’s focus has consistently been on excellence in production and on crafting wines that reflect the depth and character of Langhorne Creek fruit.

Cellaring Potential

This is drinking well now thanks to its bottle age and extended oak maturation, but the depth of fruit, tannin structure and style suggest it can continue to reward further cellaring under good conditions.
