Isole e Olena Chianti Classico 2022 is a beautiful example of classic Tuscan Sangiovese, with plenty of red fruit, freshness and savoury detail. Cherry and redcurrant lead the way, with rose petal, blood orange, liquorice and gentle spice adding a bit more depth.

The palate is medium bodied, lively and very polished, with silky tannins and bright acidity keeping everything in balance. It has enough richness to feel generous, but it still finishes fresh and crunchy rather than heavy. The 2022 vintage has already picked up 93 points from James Suckling, 92 points from Wine Advocate, Vinous, Decanter and Wine Enthusiast.

Aroma: Red cherry, dried cherry, redcurrant, rose petal, violet, liquorice and gentle spice.

Palate: Medium bodied with bright red fruit, blood orange, cinnamon, fresh acidity and fine silky tannins.

Finish: Long and fresh with lingering cherry, florals, liquorice and a savoury Tuscan edge.

About The Winery

Isole e Olena is one of the benchmark estates of Chianti Classico, based around San Donato in Poggio in the heart of Tuscany. The estate has played an important role in the modern reputation of the region, with its Chianti Classico first produced in 1969.

The 2022 is made from 90 percent Sangiovese and 10 percent Canaiolo, a traditional blend that keeps the wine firmly focused on bright fruit, perfume and freshness. It is a really smart Chianti Classico, serious enough for the cellar but still very easy to enjoy now.

Cellaring Potential

Isole e Olena Chianti Classico 2022 is drinking beautifully now with a little air, but there is plenty of life ahead. Decanter suggests a drinking window through to around 2040, while Vinous recommends through to around 2034.

Collector’s Note

With 93 points from James Suckling and a string of 92 point reviews, the 2022 is a strong release from one of Chianti Classico’s most respected names. Its balance of bright Sangiovese fruit, savoury complexity and fine tannins also gives it excellent medium to long term cellar appeal.
