About The Beer

Holgate Temptress Chocolate Porter is one of Victoria’s cult dark beers, brewed in Woodend and first released in 2008. This 6.0% porter takes a classic English brown porter base and layers in Dutch cocoa and whole vanilla beans, creating a richer, more indulgent style that still drinks like proper beer rather than a novelty. It is full of winter warmer charm, with enough polish and balance to appeal to both seasoned dark beer drinkers and those exploring the style for the first time.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Lifted cocoa, vanilla, roast malt and hints of fresh coffee.

Palate: Smooth and malt driven, with chocolate, caramel, coffee and a touch of nougat richness through the middle.

Finish: Velvety, gently roasty and lingering, with soft vanilla notes rounding everything out.

Serving Suggestions

About The Brewery

Holgate Brewhouse is a family owned, 100% independent brewery based in Woodend in the Macedon Ranges, about an hour from Melbourne. Co founded by Paul and Tash Holgate in 1999, it has built a strong reputation in Australian craft beer for traditionally brewed, boldly flavoured beers, with Temptress standing as one of its most recognisable and enduring releases.

Temptress has built a genuine following over the years and has strong award credentials too, including Best Porter at the Australian International Beer Awards in 2015 and 2018. That long running reputation is a big part of why it remains one of Holgate’s signature beers.
