Vineyard And Winemaking

The grapes come from selected vineyards around Riquewihr and south of Colmar, where clay and limestone soils help produce wines with aromatic intensity, freshness and balance. The fruit is picked by hand and handled gently to preserve the natural perfume and character of each grape variety.

About Famille Hugel And Alsace

Famille Hugel was founded in Riquewihr in 1639 and remains family owned and managed by the twelfth consecutive generation. The historic house is one of Alsace’s best known producers and has played an important role in bringing the region’s aromatic white wines to drinkers around the world.

Gentil revives an old Alsace tradition in which carefully composed blends of the region’s noble grape varieties were given this name. The wine captures the floral perfume, fruit, spice and refreshing acidity that make Alsace whites so distinctive.

Alsace lies in northeastern France near the border with Germany. Its dry climate and long growing season allow grapes to ripen slowly, producing fragrant white wines with freshness, intensity and excellent balance.

Cellaring Potential

Best enjoyed young for its fresh fruit, floral perfume and lively character. It may also be cellared for around two to four years, allowing the flavours to become softer and more integrated.
