About The Wine

Dominique Portet Réserve de Famille Cabernet Merlot Malbec 2021 is a flagship Yarra Valley red made in a refined Bordeaux-inspired style. The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Malbec and a small portion of Petit Verdot, giving the wine structure, perfume, depth and polish. The 2021 vintage is beautifully composed, with dark berry fruit, savoury nuance and fine grained tannins that carry the wine with elegance and length.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Cassis, blackberry, mulberry, violet, graphite and subtle savoury spice.

Palate: Medium bodied, supple and beautifully structured, with dark berries, red cherry, fine tannins and seamless balance.

Finish: Long, precise and elegant, with lingering graphite, dark fruit and fine-grained tannin.

Serving Suggestions

A superb match for roast beef, lamb rack, slow-cooked short ribs, mushroom dishes or aged hard cheeses.

About the Winery / Producer / Region

Dominique Portet is one of the Yarra Valley’s most respected producers, with a family winemaking history stretching across ten generations. Dominique Portet trained and worked in Bordeaux before establishing his Yarra Valley winery, bringing a French sensibility to cool-climate Australian wine.

Réserve de Famille sits at the prestige end of the Dominique Portet range, reflecting the family’s long-standing connection to Cabernet and classic Bordeaux varieties. The Yarra Valley’s cool climate gives the wine elegance, perfume and natural freshness, while the blend delivers the structure and depth expected from a serious cellar worthy red.

Cellaring Potential

Drinking beautifully now with a decant, and built to reward medium to long term cellaring. Under good conditions, it should continue to develop added savoury complexity and polish through to the mid to late 2030s.
