Corryton Burge Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 is a classic Barossa Cabernet with plenty of dark fruit, structure and warmth, but it still feels really balanced in the glass. Blackcurrant and dark cherry lead the way, with cedar, soft leather, liquorice and warm spice adding a lovely savoury edge.

The palate is rich and generous, with cassis, blackberry and cherry fruit sitting alongside cedar and spiced vanilla. Fine tannins keep everything nicely in shape, while fresh acidity stops the wine from feeling too heavy. It is drinking very well now, but there is enough structure here to reward some time in the cellar too.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Blackcurrant, blackberry, dark cherry, cedar, soft leather and warm spice.

Palate: Medium to full bodied with ripe cassis, blackberry and cherry, savoury cedar and fine structured tannins.

Finish: Long and polished with lingering dark fruit, spice, cedar and a gentle savoury edge.

About The Winery

Corryton Burge is a family owned label created by sixth generation members of the Burge winemaking family. The name brings together the Burge family heritage with Corryton Park, their historic Eden Valley homestead dating back to 1845.

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon draws on fruit from the Barossa Valley as well as higher altitude vineyard sites around the family’s Eden Valley home. That mix gives the wine plenty of ripe Barossa fruit while keeping the palate fresh, structured and nicely balanced.

This is a really solid bottle for anyone who enjoys Cabernet with plenty of black fruit and cedar, but does not want something overly heavy or tannic.

Cellaring Potential

Corryton Burge Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 is drinking well now, especially with a little air, but it has the structure to develop further. The winery suggests it will continue to evolve over the next eight years, making now to around 2034 a comfortable drinking window under good storage conditions.
