Cofield Durif 2022 is a full bodied Rutherglen red with the depth, colour and structure that make Durif such a signature variety for North East Victoria. Rich, dark and powerful, it delivers blackberry, rhubarb, savoury spice, pepper and dark chocolate oak, with a soft fruit driven middle and fine lingering tannins.

This is a classic winter red with plenty of intensity, yet it still feels balanced and polished. Separate vineyard parcels were fermented individually, then carefully blended from barrel and tank to bring the fruit, oak and tannin into harmony.

The '22 vintage in Rutherglen started late due to rain and is said to have produced refined reds. This charmer falls easily into that category with its plum, black cherry and blueberry fruits, integrated oak and spice dressed in bright tannins. Look a little deeper, and herbal threads mingle with black olive and earth. It's that kind of wine, one that reveals a little more with each sip. Tannins are nicely in place and don't overpower. Aroma: Blackberry, amaro herbs, dark chocolate orange, plum, spice and subtle oak.

Palate: Full bodied and rich with blackberry, rhubarb, savoury spice, pepper, dark chocolate and firm integrated tannins.

Finish: Long and moreish with lingering dark fruit, chocolate oak, spice and classic Rutherglen Durif grip.

Serving Suggestions

Decant for 30 to 60 minutes before serving. Enjoy with a steak, slow cooked beef, roast lamb, barbecue meats, mushroom dishes, aged cheddar or rich winter cooking.

Cellaring Potential

Cofield Durif 2022 is drinking well now, especially with decanting, but it also has the structure to cellar. Drink now to 2032 under good storage conditions. With time, expect the dark berry fruit to develop into richer notes of leather, cocoa, dried herbs, earth and savoury spice.
