Château Tronquoy Lalande Saint Estèphe 2017 is a classic mature Bordeaux with plenty of dark fruit, structure and savoury depth. Plum and blackberry sit alongside red berries and cocoa, with the tannins now starting to settle into a more polished, composed shape.

The 2017 vintage is a blend of mainly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with Petit Verdot adding a little extra depth and spice. It is full bodied but fresh, with enough acidity to keep the wine lively and enough tannin to continue ageing. At this stage, it is drinking very well with a decent decant.

Aroma: Ripe plum, blackberry, red berries, cocoa and subtle savoury spice.

Palate: Full bodied with dark fruit, red fruit, fresh acidity and firm but increasingly polished tannins.

Finish: Long and structured with lingering plum, blackberry, cocoa and classic Saint Estèphe grip.

Château Tronquoy Lalande is one of the historic estates of Saint Estèphe, on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. The property is known for Cabernet and Merlot based wines with strong structure, dark fruit and the ability to age beautifully.

Saint Estèphe generally produces some of the more structured wines of the Médoc, and the 2017 Tronquoy Lalande fits that mould nicely. There is plenty of ripe fruit, but the wine still has freshness and tannin underneath, giving it that classic Bordeaux balance between generosity and restraint.

For anyone who enjoys mature Bordeaux but still wants some life and structure in the bottle, this is a very good place to look.

Cellaring Potential

Château Tronquoy Lalande Saint Estèphe 2017 is drinking well now and has moved into a very attractive stage of its development. Wine Enthusiast suggested drinking from 2023, and the structure indicates there is still plenty of life ahead. Drink now through to around 2032 under good storage conditions.

Collector’s Note

The 2017 Château Tronquoy Lalande received 92 points from Wine Enthusiast and showed strong ageing potential from release. With its Saint Estèphe pedigree, mature vintage and classic Left Bank structure, it is a great bottle for anyone building a Bordeaux collection without jumping into first growth pricing.
