“Big Canberra IPA with passionfruit, pineapple, citrus and a firm hoppy finish.”

BentSpoke Sprocket IPA is a bold, tropical IPA with plenty of hop character and the sort of intensity that makes it very clear this is not pretending to be a pale ale.

Passionfruit, pineapple and citrus lead the way, with resin, pine and gentle malt sweetness underneath. The palate is full flavoured and energetic, with juicy tropical fruit up front and a firm bitterness carrying through the finish. BentSpoke describes it as a big and hoppy IPA with raw tropical fruit character, which pretty much nails it.

This is a great pick if you like proper IPA with plenty of flavour and bitterness. It is tropical, assertive and very much built for hop lovers rather than anyone hoping for something shy.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Passionfruit, pineapple, grapefruit, citrus and resinous hops.

Palate: Full bodied and juicy with tropical fruit, light malt sweetness and firm hop bitterness.

Finish: Long and bitter with lingering citrus, pine and tropical fruit.

About The Brewery

BentSpoke Brewing Co is based in Canberra and has become one of Australia’s best known independent craft breweries, particularly for hop driven beers.

Sprocket sits firmly at the bigger end of the range. It uses Mosaic, Amarillo and Galaxy hops to build its tropical fruit profile, with plenty of aroma and bitterness to back it up. The beer also won the trophy for Best Traditional IPA at the 2021 Australian International Beer Awards.

It is not subtle, and that is exactly the appeal. If you like hops, Sprocket gets straight to the point.
