Ata Rangi Martinborough Pinot Noir 2024 is a seriously impressive release from one of New Zealand’s great Pinot Noir producers. It has beautiful fruit and concentration, but what really stands out is how fresh, elegant and composed it feels. Ripe strawberry and cranberry sit alongside savoury herbs and subtle earthy notes, with fine tannins giving the wine plenty of shape without weighing it down. Ata Rangi describes the 2024 as complex, vibrant and supple, with a fresh finish.

This is a Pinot that already shows plenty of charm, but there is real depth underneath. Sweet dried hay, sage, red berries and a little spice gradually open in the glass, while the palate feels silky and seamless. The tannins are incredibly fine, the acidity keeps everything lively and the finish just keeps going. Cam Douglas MS awarded the 2024 an outstanding 97 points and recommends cellaring it well into the next decade.

About The Winery

Ata Rangi is one of the pioneering wineries of Martinborough and has played a major role in establishing the region’s reputation for world class Pinot Noir. The estate was founded in 1980 by Clive Paton, who planted some of the earliest Pinot Noir vines on the Martinborough Terrace. Today the wines are made by Helen Masters and continue to be known for elegance, savoury detail and impressive ageing ability.

The flagship Ata Rangi Pinot Noir brings together fruit from several vineyard sites and is the wine that best represents the house style. The 2024 vintage is being spoken about as one of the strongest modern vintages in the Wairarapa, combining concentration with exceptional finesse and freshness.

Cellaring Potential

Ata Rangi Martinborough Pinot Noir 2024 is already beautiful with a little time in the glass, but this is absolutely a wine worth cellaring. Cam Douglas MS recommends drinking it from around 2031 through 2041 and beyond, so there is plenty of life ahead for anyone looking to put a few bottles away.

Very pretty perfume of red cherry, green tomato, a touch of jalapeño, some dark chocolate and, curiously, a little exotic, tropical floral lift.
