Animale Pinot Noir 2025 is a vibrant Yarra Valley Pinot Noir made by Dave Mackintosh of Arfion. Drawn from vineyards in both the Upper and Lower Yarra Valley, it is made as a blend of juicy carbonic fruit and more restrained destemmed ferments, giving the wine freshness, fragrance and a detailed savoury edge. It is a pure Yarra expression that leans bright, supple and immediately drinkable.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Cherry, red berries, pink flowers and sweet spice.
Palate: Juicy and pliant, showing fresh cherry and red berry fruit with lively acidity, silky texture and an easy flow across the palate.
Finish: Detailed and savoury, with freshness and light spice carrying through the close.

Winemaking

The Pinot Noir is made from a blend of Upper and Lower Yarra Valley fruit, combining carbonic parcels for bright, juicy fruit character with destemmed ferments for added detail and restraint. This approach gives the wine its lifted aromatics, supple texture and savoury finish.

About the Winery 

Animale is part of Dave Mackintosh’s Yarra Valley wine project alongside Arfion. Mackintosh works with fruit from sustainably farmed Yarra Valley vineyards and follows a low-impact approach in the winery, aiming for wines that reflect vineyard, variety and vintage while remaining fresh, expressive and easy to enjoy.

Cellaring Potential

Best enjoyed young for its brightness, freshness and juicy fruit profile, though it has enough structure to reward short-term cellaring under good conditions. This label is generally positioned as an early-drinking, vibrant Pinot style.
