Samuel’s Gorge Grenache 2024 is a masterclass in purity and texture, a bright, aromatic expression that captures both the warmth of McLaren Vale and the restraint of modern Australian winemaking. Handcrafted by Justin McNamee in tiny quantities, it’s a wine that celebrates elegance, energy, and the beauty of old vine Grenache.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Lifted red berry perfume, raspberry, cherry, and wild strawberry laced with hints of rose petal, white pepper, and gentle herbs.
Palate: Medium-bodied and finely textured, delivering a seamless flow of juicy red fruit, subtle spice, and savoury mineral depth. The tannins are silky, framing the fruit with precision and poise.
Finish: Long, pure, and beautifully balanced, leaving a trail of spice and floral lift.
Food Pairing / Serving Suggestions
Perfect with slow-roasted lamb shoulder, wood-fired pizza, or grilled vegetables with rosemary and olive oil. Serve lightly chilled (14–16°C) for ultimate brightness.
About the Winery / Region
Founded in 2003, Samuel’s Gorge is a boutique McLaren Vale producer housed in a restored 1853 sandstone winery overlooking the Onkaparinga Gorge. Winemaker Justin McNamee focuses on Rhône varieties, Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Tempranillo, and Graciano crafted with minimal intervention and old-world techniques like open fermenters and basket pressing. The wines are elegant reflections of their rugged, sun-drenched landscape, combining intensity with grace.
Cellaring Potential
A delight in its youth for sheer vibrancy but will evolve beautifully over 8–10 years, gaining savoury complexity and softer tannins.

Samuel’s Gorge is a Halliday 5-Star Winery, and its Grenache is consistently among Australia’s most celebrated. We expect ongoing recognition for redefining modern McLaren Vale Grenache, bright, pure, and deeply expressive.
