Montenegro Amaro is one of Italy’s most loved herbal liqueurs, known for its smooth balance of citrus, herbs, spice and gentle bitterness. Created in Bologna in 1885, it brings together more than 40 botanicals to create a complex but beautifully approachable amaro.

This is a versatile bottle for the home bar. Enjoy it neat after dinner, over ice with a slice of orange, topped with soda for a refreshing long drink, or mixed into classic and modern cocktails.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Orange peel, sweet herbs, vanilla, spice, dried flowers and soft citrus.

Palate: Smooth and rounded with orange, herbal sweetness, warm spice, gentle bitterness and light floral detail.

Finish: Long, balanced and softly bitter with lingering citrus, herbs, spice and mellow sweetness.

Serving Suggestions

Serve neat as a digestif, pour over ice with orange, or top with soda for a lighter aperitivo style drink. It also works beautifully in cocktails such as a Black Manhattan, Paper Plane variation, Amaro Sour or Spritz.

About The Producer

Amaro Montenegro was created in Bologna in 1885 by Stanislao Cobianchi, an adventurous Italian spirits maker who developed the recipe after years of travel and exploration. Originally known as Elisir Lungavita, it was later renamed Amaro Montenegro in honour of Princess Elena of Montenegro.

Bologna sits in Emilia Romagna, a region famous for rich food, hospitality and classic Italian drinking culture. Amaro has long been part of that tradition, enjoyed after meals for its bittersweet herbal character and ability to refresh the palate.

Montenegro is made from a carefully guarded recipe of more than 40 botanicals, including herbs, roots, spices, citrus peel and flowers. The result is softer and more approachable than many darker, heavier Amari, with orange, vanilla, floral notes and gentle bitterness giving it wide appeal.
