Ayinger Urweisse is a richer, darker take on the classic Bavarian wheat beer style, with all the familiar banana and clove character but a little more malt depth underneath.

The beer pours a deep amber brown, with aromas of ripe banana, clove, toasted wheat and fresh bread. The palate is smooth and creamy, with soft caramel, gentle spice and lively carbonation keeping the richer malt character balanced and refreshing.

Ayinger Urweisse gives you everything that makes a good Hefeweizen appealing, but with a darker, maltier edge. It is still fresh and easy to drink, just with a little more depth and warmth than a standard pale wheat beer.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Ripe banana, clove, toasted wheat, fresh bread and soft caramel.

Palate: Smooth and medium bodied with creamy wheat, gentle spice, caramel malt and lively carbonation.

Finish: Soft and rounded with lingering banana, toasted grain and a lightly sweet malt character.

About The Brewery

Privatbrauerei Ayinger is based in Aying, south east of Munich, and is one of Bavaria’s best known independent family breweries.

Ayinger has built its reputation on traditional Bavarian beer styles, with wheat beers forming an important part of the range. Urweisse sits on the darker side of the spectrum, using richer malt to bring more bread, caramel and toasted character while still keeping the classic fruit and spice that define a Bavarian Weissbier.

The result is a beer with plenty of personality, but thankfully not so much personality that it forgets to be refreshing.
