Brave New Wine Riot Girl White Blend 2023 750ml

“Bright Great Southern white with preserved lemon, summer fruit, gentle spice and a salty finish.”

Brave New Wine Riot Girl White Blend 2023 is fresh, textured and just unconventional enough to keep things interesting.

Made from 50% Viognier and 50% Vermentino, it brings together preserved lemon, citrus, summer fruit and subtle herbal spice, with a lovely slippery texture through the middle and a lightly grippy edge from brief skin contact. The finish has a distinctive sea spray, oyster shell saltiness that keeps the wine bright and refreshing.

This is a very approachable way into Brave New Wine’s more adventurous style. It has plenty of personality, but it is still clean, fresh and genuinely easy to drink. At 12.1% ABV, it also stays light on its feet rather than becoming rich or heavy.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Preserved lemon, fresh summer fruit, barley sugar, vanilla and gentle herbal spice.

Palate: Bright and textural with lemon tart, citrus, ripe fruit and a smooth, slightly slippery middle.

Finish: Dry and lightly grippy with sea spray, oyster shell salinity and lingering citrus.

About The Winery

Brave New Wine is the project of Yoko Luscher Mostert and Andries Mostert, based in Denmark in Western Australia’s Great Southern region. The pair have built a reputation for making small batch wines that are playful, expressive and deliberately different from the mainstream.

Their approach is minimal intervention, with a strong focus on interesting vineyard parcels, natural fermentation and allowing texture and fruit character to do most of the talking.

Riot Girl is one of the more approachable wines in the range. For the 2023 release, Viognier and Vermentino were picked early to retain acidity, then given a short period on skins before pressing. The juice was fermented naturally in tank and neutral barrels, then left on lees for around 12 months to build complexity and texture.

The result is bright, slightly wild and very easy to like. A little rebellion is fine, particularly when it comes with preserved lemon and a salty finish.

Cellaring Potential

Brave New Wine Riot Girl White Blend 2023 is best enjoyed young, while the citrus, texture and freshness are at their most vibrant.

Recommended drinking window: Now to 2027.
