Nericon Vineyard Shiraz 2021 750ml

“Rich Riverina Shiraz with blackberry, black cherry, liquorice, dark chocolate and a smooth full finish.”

Nericon Vineyard Shiraz 2021 is a generous, full bodied Riverina red with plenty of dark fruit and just enough savoury detail to keep it interesting.

Blackberry, black cherry and plum lead the way, followed by dark chocolate, coffee, liquorice, pepper and a subtle minty lift. The palate is rich and smooth, with concentrated fruit, fine tannins and a long, warming finish.

This is a lot of Shiraz for the money. You are getting a full flavoured Australian red from a family owned winery with nearly 70 years of history, and the 2021 vintage has also picked up show recognition.

About The Winery

Nericon is part of Dee Vine Estate, a family owned winery whose story began in 1956 when brothers Michele and Domenico Scarfone migrated from southern Italy and settled in Nericon in the Riverina.

They planted their first vines the following year with the aim of producing traditional Italian table wines for Australian drinkers. Three generations later, the family still owns and operates vineyards throughout the Riverina, with the Nericon range paying tribute to the original property where the story began.

The range is deliberately classic and approachable, with the focus on ripe fruit, generous flavour and excellent value. This Shiraz fits that brief rather well. There is plenty going on in the glass, but nothing that requires a tasting notebook and a quiet room.

Cellaring Potential

Nericon Vineyard Shiraz 2021 is ready to drink now, with its dark fruit and tannins already nicely settled.

Recommended drinking window: Now to 2028.

Collector's Note

The 2021 Nericon Shiraz was entered in the 2023 Rutherglen Wine Show Shiraz class, while earlier Nericon Shiraz releases have also performed strongly at Australian and international wine shows.
