About The Wine

Mount Mary Quintet 2018 is one of the benchmark Bordeaux-style blends of the Yarra Valley and a standout expression of the estate’s elegant, long lived house style. The 2018 vintage shows remarkable energy and poise, combining dark berry fruit, red cherry, fine herbal detail and beautifully integrated oak. It is powerful without excess, structured without heaviness, and already deeply impressive while clearly built for long development in bottle.

Stands proudly at the head of the Mount Mary portfolio. A blend of 44% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 16% cabernet franc and 5% each of malbec and petit verdot, each variety handled according to its structure. Open/static fermenters, wood/stainless steel, 10-14 days on skins, 35% new oak from a range of coopers and forests, 16 to 20 months in barrel. Mesmerisingly silky, with a kaleidoscope of fruit and secondary flavours.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Cassis, red cherry, dark chocolate, cedar and a subtle Cabernet leafiness.

Palate: Layered and finely structured, with blackcurrant, red fruits, savoury nuance and a beautifully composed, silky flow across the palate. This is a tightly knit, detailed wine with real finesse.

Finish: Long, refined and persistent, with fine tannin, mineral tension and lingering dark fruit, spice and cedar.

Serving Suggestions

A superb match for roast lamb, beef fillet, duck, mushroom dishes or aged hard cheeses.
