About The Wine 

Henschke The Wheelwright Shiraz 2022 is a premium singlevineyard Eden Valley Shiraz, presented in a gift box. It is drawn from The Wheelwright Vineyard, planted in 1968 by Cyril Henschke, and shows a beautifully lifted, aromatic side of Henschke Shiraz.

The 2022 release is vibrant, detailed and finely structured, with red plum, raspberry, pomegranate, blue fruits, spice, violets, rosemary, liquorice and graphite like mineral detail. It has the depth expected from Henschke, but with a graceful, medium bodied feel and beautifully polished tannins.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Red plum, raspberry, pomegranate, violets, rosemary, liquorice, pink peppercorn, graphite and subtle oak spice.

Palate: Juicy and elegant, with red and blue fruits, savoury spice, fine acidity, cocoa-dusted tannins and a silky, layered texture.

Finish: Long, bright and refined, with lingering berry fruit, spice, graphite, herbs and fine Eden Valley tannin.

Shiraz sourced from the Wheelwright vineyard in the Eden Valley; aged in French oak, 10% new, for 20 months. Expressive and fruit pure with aromas of blackberry, blueberry and black cherry fruits with hints of brown spice, flowering herbs, sage, a flash of red cherry, violets, cedar, graphite and crushed rock. There's a lovely core of pure plum and blue fruits over graphite, layers of spice and citrus blossom high tones. Graceful and sleek with melt-in-the-mouth tannins and a bright, sustained finish. Serving Suggestions

Serve at 16 to 18°C and decant in its youth to allow the perfume and structure to open. Enjoy with roast lamb, duck, venison, dry aged beef, mushroom dishes, truffle based dishes, slow cooked meats or aged hard cheeses.

Henschke is one of Australia’s most respected family owned wine producers, with deep roots in the Eden Valley and Barossa. The family is known for exceptional single vineyard wines, careful vineyard stewardship and a long history of producing some of Australia’s most collectible Shiraz.

The Wheelwright Vineyard sits in the Eden Valley at around 470 metres elevation, with Shiraz vines planted in 1968. The 2022 wine is made from 100% Shiraz and farmed using organic and biodynamic practices. It was matured for 20 months in French oak hogsheads, with only a small proportion of new oak, helping preserve purity, elegance and site expression.

Eden Valley’s elevation, cool nights and long ripening season give Shiraz a more perfumed, finely structured personality, with red fruit, spice, herbs and natural acidity balancing the region’s depth and power.

Nick Ryan from The Australian and World of Fine Wine also rated The Wheelwright 2022 96 points, describing it as vibrant, juicy, plush and supple, with berry fruits, Dutch liquorice, dark spices, violets, rosemary and micro fine cocoa dusted tannins.
