About The Wine 

Henschke Mount Edelstone Shiraz 2022 is one of Australia’s great single vineyard Shiraz releases, presented here in gift box. This is the 70th vintage of Mount Edelstone, making it an especially significant release from one of the country’s most historic vineyard sites. Henschke notes the 2022 Single Vineyard Collection was released globally on 6 May 2026.

The 2022 vintage is elegant, fragrant and beautifully composed, showing dark cherry, blackberry, blueberry, sage, bay leaf, thyme, black pepper, cedar and spice. It has depth and concentration, but the real magic is in its balance; fine tannins, lifted aromatics, graceful structure and exceptional length.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Dark cherry, blackberry, blueberry, bramble, sage, bay leaf, thyme, black pepper, cedar and subtle liquorice.

Palate: Rich and finely layered, with black and blue fruits, anise, cocoa, dark spices, crushed herbs and supple tannins.

Finish: Long, elegant and beautifully balanced, with lingering savoury spice, cedar, dark fruit and silky old vine structure.

The 70th anniversary release of this much loved and iconic Australian wine. A hail event reduced yields somewhat, with perfect instances of summer rainfall and a mild, drawn out finish to the growing season. The end result was an exceptionally strong vintage. Bright magenta crimson with aromas of pure plum, blackberry and black cherry and a flash of blue fruits over sage, peppercorn, rosehip, mace, bay leaf, crushed stone, herb garden, gentle cedar tones, milk chocolate, pan juices and, further back, tobacco and crushed rocks. Beautifully balanced on the palate, showing a graceful arc of travel, the fine tannins melting away into the fruit. The finish stretches out persistently, all detail and elegance. Dave Brookes

Serving Suggestions

Serve at 16 to18°C and decant in its youth to let the aromatics and structure open. Enjoy with roast lamb, dry aged beef, venison, duck, slow cooked meats, mushroom dishes, truffle-based dishes or aged hard cheeses.

Henschke is one of Australia’s most respected family-owned wine producers, with generations of history in the Eden Valley and Barossa. The family is known for landmark single-vineyard wines, including Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone, both of which have become pillars of Australian fine wine.

Mount Edelstone is a historic single vineyard Shiraz site in the Eden Valley. The dry grown, ungrafted vines were planted in 1912 by Ronald Angas, making them centenarian vines with extraordinary heritage. Henschke first bottled Mount Edelstone as a single vineyard wine from the 1952 vintage, and it has since become one of Australia’s longest consecutively produced single vineyard Shiraz wines. 

The Eden Valley’s elevation, cool nights and ancient soils help create Shiraz with perfume, spice, fine tannins and long term ageing ability. Mount Edelstone is a benchmark expression of this style; powerful, yet never heavy.
