About The Wine

Montalto Estate Chardonnay 2023 is a beautifully layered Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay with citrus brightness, stone fruit richness and refined cool climate structure. This is a polished, premium Victorian Chardonnay that brings together ripe lemon, ruby grapefruit, white peach, fine French oak and a creamy lees texture without losing freshness.

Made from estate grown fruit in Red Hill South, the 2023 release shows the elegance and detail that makes Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay so highly regarded. It is generous, textural and beautifully balanced, with lively acidity carrying the wine through a long, mineral finish.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: White peach, nectarine, citrus, almond croissant, praline, nougat and subtle roasted hazelnut.

Palate: Layered and generous, with ruby grapefruit, ripe lemon, candied citrus peel, stone fruit, crème brûlée and fine mineral texture.

Finish: Long, fresh and elegant, with lively acidity, citrus drive, creamy lees detail and a clean mineral edge.

There’s a generosity of flavour coming through this vintage, with stone fruit and preserved lemon with fresh grapefruit, too. The creamy lees and cedary oak carry through the fuller-bodied palate, giving this opulence but not heaviness, with fine acidity keeping everything in check. Jane Faulkner.

This is a fabulous release. Bang, we’re off to the races. It’s intense, it’s layered, it’s lovely and it’s long. It’s also harmonious. Stonefruits, lemon myrtle, beeswax and assorted florals. It’s pretty and it’s lively and while it’s not plush, the palate has a bit of spread to it, a bit of luxury. The acidity here, dripping with flavour as it is, is a bit of a masterclass too.
