Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2025 is a deeply expressive Geelong Pinot Noir made entirely from estate grown fruit. Bright cherry and wild berry flavours are layered with rose petal, dried herbs, savoury spice and earthy complexity, supported by fresh acidity and finely woven tannins. The 2025 vintage was the earliest harvest recorded at Bannockburn Vineyards. Warm and dry growing conditions produced fruit with excellent concentration, clarity and natural structure. The finished wine combines generosity with freshness, showing the depth and savoury character for which Bannockburn Pinot Noir is known.

Reviews & Accolades

Halliday Wine Companion - 97 Points

From vines planted between 1976 and 2007; 20% whole bunches, 25% new oak. A lovely Bannockburn pinot noir. Opens with perfumed aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, rose bush and subtle cardamom and nutmeg spice. Medium bodied on the palate, with an excellent core of fruit, yet it's equally light on its feet. The tannins are sinewy and in perfect harmony with the fruit. Very long. Delicious now and will be even better in six to 10 years. Philip Rich

The Wine Front - 95 Points

Campbell Mattinson highlighted the wine’s earthy character, black cherry, roasted spice, fine tannins and strong potential to mature in the cellar. Campbell Mattinson

Serving Suggestions

Serve slightly below room temperature and allow the wine some time to open in the glass. Pair with roast duck, grilled lamb, pork, mushroom dishes, roast chicken, salmon or earthy vegetable dishes.

Its fine tannins and savoury character also make it an excellent match for charcuterie, pâté and mature cheeses.

About The Vineyards

Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2025 brings together fruit from five established estate vineyards: Olive Tree Hill, planted in 1976, 10 Rows, planted in 1991, Stuart Block, planted in 1997, Anns Block, planted in 2004, and De La Terre, planted in 2007.

These vineyards contain a combination of MV6, 114, 115 and 777 Pinot Noir clones, planted at different vine spacings and densities. Blending across these individual blocks allows the wine to combine the depth of old vine fruit with the perfume, freshness and fine structure contributed by younger plantings.

The vineyards are grown on low fertility soils formed from volcanic material and ancient seabeds, with darker clay based soils found over limestone bedrock. These naturally well drained soils restrict vine growth and yields, helping create Pinot Noir with concentrated flavour, fine tannins and a distinctive savoury profile.

Winemaking

Each parcel was handpicked and fermented separately using wild yeast. Approximately 20 percent whole bunch fruit was included across the final blend, along with a small portion fermented using carbonic maceration.

After pressing, the wine was transferred to French oak hogsheads and puncheons, with approximately 25 percent new oak. It remained undisturbed in barrel for 10 months before the individual vineyard parcels were blended and bottled. This restrained approach preserves the character of each vineyard while building texture, spice and complexity.

About Bannockburn Vineyards And The Geelong Region

Bannockburn Vineyards was established by Stuart Hooper in the early 1970s in the Moorabool Valley, around 25 kilometres northwest of Geelong. Inspired by the great wine regions of France, Hooper set out to create Australian wines defined by vineyard quality, regional character and careful winemaking.

The first vineyard was planted in 1974. While much of the Australian wine industry was focused on Bordeaux varieties, Bannockburn invested in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The estate now has some of the oldest Pinot Noir vines in the Geelong region and remains owned and managed by the Hooper family.

Bannockburn follows a vineyard focused approach that includes organic composting, straw mulching, inter row cover crops and careful soil management. The aim is to encourage healthy vines, balanced yields and fruit that clearly reflects the individual vineyard sites.

The Moorabool Valley receives relatively low rainfall and benefits from cooling winds moving inland from the Southern Ocean. Long daylight hours, dry growing conditions and limestone influenced soils allow Pinot Noir to ripen gradually while retaining acidity, perfume and fine structure.

Cellaring Potential

Beautifully expressive now, particularly after some time in the glass. It also has the fruit concentration, acidity and tannin structure to develop for six to ten years from vintage.

With careful cellaring, the fresh cherry and floral characters should evolve towards dried herbs, forest floor, spice and deeper savoury complexity.
