About the Winery / Producer / Region

Château Mont Redon is a long established Southern Rhône estate with roots stretching back centuries; modern ownership by the Abeille/Fabre families dates to 1923, with the property’s history in the area reaching further back. 

Château Mont-Redon is one of the Southern Rhône’s reference estates, best known for its Châteauneuf-du-Pape holdings and long, site first approach to winemaking. The modern chapter began in 1923, when Henri Plantin acquired Mont-Redon (well before the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation was formally created in 1936) and set about consolidating vineyards around the estate, recognising the potential of the area’s top terroirs.

A key part of Mont-Redon’s reputation is the scale and quality of its vineyard base in Châteauneuf-du-Pape often referenced as among the largest in the appellation with major parcels on the famed plateau of galets roulés (rounded stones), alongside safres (sandy/compact sands) and limestone sites. These complementary terroirs are central to the estate’s house style: depth and power, but with freshness and structure for ageing.

Today, the estate (Abeille Fabre family) emphasises long-term viticulture and environmental stewardship, including High Environmental Value (HVE) Level 3 certification (awarded in 2018) and practical measures to support biodiversity and reduce environmental impact.

For Gigondas, Mont-Redon applies the same “serious Rhône” mindset focusing on site selection, old vine material and a structured, cellar-capable style rather than a simple fruit forward red. (Many stockists note the 2022 Gigondas Réserve as Grenache led, supported by Rhône varieties, with vineyard specific sourcing and classic regional structure.)
