About the Distillery / History
Dufftown Distillery was founded in 1896 in the heart of Speyside, a region often described as the spiritual home of Scotch whisky. Built during the late-19th-century whisky boom, Dufftown quickly earned a reputation for producing rich, approachable malts that became essential components in some of Scotland’s most famous blends.
Dufftown sits in the town famously nicknamed “the whisky capital of the world”, once home to seven distilleries. Its location provides access to high-quality spring water from the Conval Hills and ideal maturation conditions, contributing to the distillery’s soft, fruit-forward style.
The Singleton brand was created to showcase the distillery’s character as a single malt in its own right, rather than solely as a blending component. A defining feature of Dufftown’s production is its extended fermentation and slow distillation, techniques that emphasise richness, texture and fruit depth over intensity.
Maturation plays a crucial role in The Singleton style. The 12 Year Old is aged in a mix of American oak (for sweetness and vanilla) and European oak (for structure and gentle spice), resulting in a whisky that is rounded, expressive and exceptionally smooth. This patient, traditional approach has made The Singleton one of the most popular and trusted Speyside single malts worldwide.
