Pietradolce Etna Rosso 2024 is a fragrant and finely structured Sicilian red made entirely from Nerello Mascalese. Fresh red berries and floral notes are joined by spice, fine tannins and the distinctive mineral character associated with the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna.

The grapes are grown between approximately 700 and 800 metres above sea level near Solicchiata on Etna’s northern slopes. After destemming and crushing, the wine undergoes around eighteen days of skin contact, followed by three months in oak.

About The Vineyards And Mount Etna

Pietradolce farms vineyards across approximately thirty hectares on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, with sites located between 650 and 950 metres above sea level. The vineyards are spread across several recognised contrade, including Rampante, Zottorinoto, Santo Spirito and Feudo di Mezzo.

The Etna Rosso comes from sandy loam soils containing abundant volcanic rock. These free draining soils, combined with high elevation and significant temperature differences between day and night, help Nerello Mascalese develop fragrance, acidity and fine structure.

About Pietradolce

Pietradolce was established in 2005 by Michele Faro and his family. The estate is based in Solicchiata on Etna’s northern slope and focuses on the traditional varieties of the volcano, particularly Nerello Mascalese and Carricante.

The name Pietradolce means sweet stone, reflecting the lava rock that defines the vineyards and shapes the personality of the wines. Fermentation takes place in small raw concrete tanks, while the red wines mature in oak within a cellar built with thick lava stone walls.

Cellaring Potential

Enjoy now for its vibrant red fruit, perfume and mineral freshness, or cellar for three to six years. Bottle age should bring more dried herbs, spice and earthy complexity.
