Camba Chiemsee Black is a dark lager with plenty of roasted character, but it stays surprisingly smooth and easy to drink.

Cocoa, dark chocolate and roasted malt lead the way, with caramel and toasted grain adding a little extra richness. The palate is full bodied but balanced, with soft malt sweetness and restrained bitterness keeping everything nicely in line. At 5.5% ABV, there is plenty of flavour without it wandering into heavy stout territory.

This lager gives you the richness of a dark beer with the clean finish of a Bavarian lager. If you enjoy roasted malt and chocolate flavours but do not always want something as heavy as a stout or porter, this sits in a very handy middle ground.

Camba Bavaria is based in Seeon in Bavaria and has built a reputation for combining traditional German brewing with a more modern approach to beer styles.

Chiemsee Black is brewed as a bottom fermented Black Lager using Pilsner malt, caramel malts and roasted malts, with Tradition hops and Bavarian lager yeast. That combination gives it the deep colour and roasted flavours of a dark beer while keeping the finish clean and refreshing.

It is dark enough to look serious, rich enough to keep things interesting and still easy enough to drink like a lager. A very sensible arrangement.
