Catena High Mountain Vines Malbec 2024 is a beautifully polished Argentine Malbec with plenty of ripe dark fruit, but enough freshness and perfume to keep it well away from the heavy end of the spectrum.

Blackberry, ripe plum and blueberry lead the way, with violet, mocha, gentle spice and a little savoury earth underneath. The palate is medium to full bodied, smooth and generous, with fine tannins and bright acidity giving the wine a really balanced feel.

Catena is one of Argentina’s benchmark producers, and this gives you a genuine taste of high altitude Mendoza Malbec at a very approachable level. It is rich enough to satisfy, polished enough to impress and easy enough to open without waiting for a steak dinner.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Blackberry, ripe plum, blueberry, violet and gentle spice.

Palate: Medium to full bodied with dark fruit, mocha, savoury notes and silky fine tannins.

Finish: Long and smooth with lingering blackberry, plum, spice and a fresh mineral edge.

About The Winery

Catena Zapata is one of Argentina’s most influential family owned wineries and has played a major role in establishing Mendoza Malbec on the world stage.

The Catena family began making wine in Mendoza in 1902, and later generations pushed vineyard plantings higher into the Andes, where cooler temperatures and greater altitude help preserve freshness, perfume and acidity in the fruit.

The High Mountain Vines Malbec brings fruit from elevated vineyard sites across Mendoza, combining the generosity of ripe Malbec with the brightness and structure that high altitude sites can deliver.

That is really the appeal here. You still get the dark fruit and softness people love in Malbec, but with more lift, more freshness and a little more finesse.

Catena High Mountain Vines Malbec 2024 is drinking beautifully now, but it has enough fruit and structure to develop nicely over the next few years.
