Riegele Augsburger Herren Pils Bottle 500ml

“Crisp German Pils with floral hops, light malt and a properly dry bitter finish.”

Riegele Augsburger Herren Pils is a classic German Pils for those who like their lager crisp, clean and noticeably hoppy.

The aroma is floral and herbal, with fresh grain and light malt underneath. The palate stays lean and refreshing, while the hop bitterness builds steadily through the finish without becoming harsh. Riegele rates the bitterness at 7 out of 10, so this is definitely on the firmer side of the lager spectrum.

This is a great pick,  if Helles sometimes feels a little too soft for you. There is still plenty of Bavarian balance here, but with a sharper hop edge and a drier finish.

"Augsburg has been steeped in great brewing tradition since 1156 when Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa issued it the first known purity law in Germany. True to its imperial-city namesake, Augsburger Herrenpils is an exemplary German Pils. Crisp, clean, with an ideal hoppy bitterness that adds perfect balance and structure to this internationally celebrated Pilsener." Riegele

About The Brewery

Brauhaus Riegele is based in Augsburg, Bavaria, with brewing roots dating back to 1386. Augsburger Herren Pils belongs to the brewery’s traditional core range and takes inspiration from Augsburg’s long brewing history.

Riegele says Augsburg received its own purity regulations under Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa in 1156, and this beer was created in the spirit of the properly bitter Pils once favoured by the city’s councillors. Three additions of aroma hops give it its distinctive floral character and firm bitterness.

It is not the lager for anyone trying to avoid bitterness. For everyone else, that is rather the point.

Serving Suggestions

A good match with schnitzel, sausages, grilled chicken, seafood, salads and lighter dishes.

The dry bitterness also works particularly well with fried foods and anything a little salty, where the crisp finish helps keep things fresh.
