Aecht Schlenkerla Rotbier Bottle 500ml

“Cherrywood smoked red lager with rich malt, berry notes and a softer, fruity smoke.”

Aecht Schlenkerla Weichsel Rotbier is a distinctive smoked red lager from Bamberg, Germany. Unlike Schlenkerla’s classic Rauchbier, where the malt is smoked over beechwood, this Rotbier uses cherrywood smoked malt, creating a softer, fruitier and almost sweet smoke character. Copper-red in the glass, malty and wonderfully drinkable, it is a fascinating twist on one of Germany’s historic beer styles.

About Schlenkerla

Schlenkerla is one of Bamberg’s great historic breweries and is famous around the world for preserving the traditional art of smoked beer. Its beers are closely connected to Franconian brewing history, with malt dried over wood fires producing the unmistakable Rauchbier character for which the brewery is renowned.

Rotbier, or red lager, was once widely brewed throughout Franconia and was particularly associated with Nuremberg before largely disappearing during the 19th century. Schlenkerla’s Weichsel Rotbier revives the style with an unusual twist: the malt is dried over cherrywood rather than the brewery’s traditional beechwood fire. The result is a copper red lager with a fruitier smoke profile and plenty of classic Schlenkerla character.
